Abdominoplasty is a procedure to remove excess skin from the lower abdomen after weight loss. It can be a very effective way to improve the appearance of the abdomen for some people. It is not a substitute for weight loss but can remove the excess tissue left behind which cannot be improved with further weight loss or exercise. The procedure involves removing the tissue below the umbilicus and advancing the skin of the upper abdomen down to close the wound to leave a scar in the bikini line.
We will see you in the clinic to evaluate your suitability for the surgery and to discuss the procedure and possible complications in more detail.
The surgery is done under general anaesthetic and you will stay in the hospital for two nights afterwards. There will be drain tubes which we will remove a few days after surgery. The scar in the bikini line will be sutured with dissolvable sutures but there may be some sutures around the umbilicus which we will remove two weeks after surgery. We will then see you when everything is fully settled to ensure you are happy with the result.
